Have you contributed to the Cozy Sox Campaign yet?

Information Morning started it

“My mother broke her hip. To keep herself occupied while she was immobilized she decided to knit socks for the homeless.” A daughter was talking about her mother on the CBC Radio Show Information Morning just before Christmas.

I heard the article and said to Shirley, my wife, “What a great idea” and then we went away for our Christmas vacation.

Veronica took action

One of my teachers, Veronica Sherwood, heard the article also. Unlike me, she decided to take action.

Early in January she put a “Sox Box” in the arrival area of the yoga studio. I sent an email to our members and the socks started rolling in. Here is the email.

Veronica is heading up the COZY SOX campaign at the studio.

We are collecting socks for the homeless folks in HRM. We are requesting your help.

You will find a “Sox Box” in the Studio arrival area waiting for socks of all shapes and sizes – a much needed item during our Maritime winter.

We are looking for your

  • new
  • lightly used
  • Single socks left over from the laundry (Where did its mate go!).
  • Mix and Match pairs are also appreciated.
  • Unloved socks

We are hoping to collect the socks on Wednesday, January 28. The socks will then be given to Margaret’s House in Dartmouth.

Thanks for your help. It is appreciated.

PS. Mix and match are so much better than cold and wet. All socks are welcome :).

We hoped that we could fill the box before we took all of the socks to Marget House in Halifax for distribution to homeless folks.

Where are we now

After one week we have filled the Sox Box four times by Saturday. The first delivery will be happening this week. Veronica will be visiting Margaret House and dropping off the Cozy Sox we have collected so far

How can you help

Veronica and I are keen to see how many more times we can fill the Sox Box before the winter ends.

There are two ways you can help

  1. Do you have any new or used Cozy Sox that could use a new home. Bring them to Sunrise Yoga Studio 505 – 73 Tacoma Drive. We are in the 8 story office tower across from the 24 hour Sobeys. Drop them off in the Sox Box that is just outside our door.
  2. Tell your friends about the Cozy Sox Campaign. Share a link to this article on Face book, and Twitter. Encourage them to bring some Cozy Sox to and drop them in our Sox Box.

Let’s see how many times we can fill the Sox Box. We are at four times and counting after less than a week.
