What did you do special for Remembrance Day?

For the past six years we have closed the studio for Remembrance Day. On Tuesday, Sarah MacKeigan, one of our teachers, said we should try and do something more for Remembrance Day. So, we tossed around a few ideas via email and we settled on an idea.

We would do a special Karma class on Remembrance Day.

Remembrance day

We had fifteen people show up to our first Remembrance Day Karma class in 2010.

A Karma class is a special class that we run once a month. A teacher volunteers their time and the studio volunteers the space and the people that come provide a donation (if they wish) to a local charity that the teacher has selected. All of the money raised goes to the local charity.

Now here is the challenge. We had 24 hours to let our members know that we were going to have this special class.

We posted an event on the Facebook Fan page that the studio has and we sent an email to all of our members. And we even did a few tweets on Twitter.

All of this happened on Wednesday and the Karma class was on Thursday at 7 pm. We wondered if anyone was going to show up.

We were pleased to have 15 people arrive at the studio for the meditation and yoga practice. We dedicated the practice to the past and current veterans. One of our members is in Afghanistan now and will be home for Christmas.

We raised $115.25 for the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy fund.

That is how we spent our Remembrance Day.

What did you do that was special?
