My teacher has challenged her students to practice yoga everyday for the month of June. After talking to her on the 1st of June, I decided to take her up on the challenge.
Here are her guidelines:
- Everyday does not mean every day!
- Saturdays are rest days.
- New moon and Full moon we do not practice. The New moon and Full moon fall on Saturday this month. Oh well no extra days off.
- Ladies get a few extra days off. Usually about 3 days. The guys do not.
There are 30 days in June and 4 Saturdays. So that works out to be 26 days of practice for me.
Lisa Spinney recently completed a one month challenge
Lisa Spinney decided to take the CNIB challenge and do a yoga class a day for the month of May. She managed to do a practice everyday and reached her goal of rasing $500 dollars for the CNIB. She even came to Sunrise Yoga studio for her first ever mysore style Ashtanga class. That’s Lisa in the picture during her mysore practice at the studio.
My Plan
I usually practice Ashtanga Primary series at the studio at 6:30 am with some students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I practice Ashtanga Intermediate at my teacher’s studio on Tuesday and Thursday. And I practice Ashtanga Intermediate series on Sunday afternoon at the studio on my own. This is the routine I have been loosely following for the past 11 months. I have been taking the occassional day off for various reasons: too tired in the morning; lousy weather; travelling; what ever. Now with this commitment, I will have to be more deligent.
So here is the plan.
I will continue with my usual practice pattern:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Sunrise Yoga Studio at 6:30 am
- Tuesday and Thursday at my teacher’s studio at 6:30 am
- Saturday is a rest day
- Sunday at Sunrise Yoga Studio at 4:30 pm
I will report once a week on Saturday on the blog and to my teacher.
Wish me luck!
Oh and you can join me with the challenge if you like. All you have to do is announce that you are going to do yoga everyday for the month of June and report on your progress.
Yoga daily for a month should be possible, if any style of qualifies and if a practice means some yoga. So I’m with you.
